A pickup truck driver was killed in a rear-end collision in Bakersfield on Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2026.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the crash occurred around 2:22 p.m. at the intersection of Columbus and Bucknell streets.
Police said the older-model pickup was traveling westbound when it struck the rear of a vehicle that had slowed for a crossing guard escorting children across the street.
The pickup driver, who was alone in the truck, died from his injuries at the scene. His identity was not immediately released. No one else was injured.
Police said speed and intoxication were believed to have contributed to the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
