A pickup truck driver was killed after a collision with a big rig on State Route 74 in Palm Desert on Thursday morning, October 31, 2024.
California Highway Patrol records indicate that the big rig was traveling “downbound” shortly after 7:30 a.m. when it lost control and overturned.
According to CHP Officer David Torres, the big rig crashed into a Chevrolet Silverado traveling in the opposite direction, resulting in the Silverado driver being pronounced dead at the scene.
All lanes on SR-74 remain closed from Palowet Drive to state Route 371, with the reopening time still unknown, as reported by Torres. A coroner was requested to the scene at approximately 8:25 a.m., and the identity of the Silverado driver has not yet been publicly released.
The investigation is ongoing.
