A 48-year-old Riverside woman was killed, and a driver sustained minor injuries in a crash in Whitewater, Riverside County, early Saturday morning, October 31, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 10, west of State Route 62, also known as 29 Palms Highway.
A preliminary investigation found that a 45-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe towing a trailer in the far-left of the four eastbound lanes.
The driver lost control, and the Chevrolet veered left into the center-divider guardrail, ejecting the woman from the front passenger seat.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.
CHP said seat belt nonuse was a possible factor in the woman’s death. Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected as contributing factors.
The investigation remains ongoing.
