A motorcyclist was killed after a hit-and-run crash on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 in Alameda County on the evening of Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
The California Highway Patrol received reports around 7:40 p.m. of a collision involving a big rig and a motorcyclist near the Stone Cut railroad overcrossing, west of Grant Line Road.
Officers arrived to find the rider lying in traffic lanes with severe injuries and later confirmed the motorcyclist’s death.
According to authorities, a gold SUV, possibly an older Lexus, was “erratically weaving” through traffic when it sideswiped the motorcyclist, who was lane-splitting at the time. The impact sent the motorcyclist and bike underneath a passing big rig, which was carrying a white shipping container with red lettering on a flatbed. Both the big rig and SUV briefly stopped before fleeing the scene.
