A 55-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed in front of North County Mall in Escondido early Wednesday morning, November 6, 2024.
The fatal accident occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m. in the 200 block of East Via Rancho Parkway.
Despite lifesaving efforts from witnesses, patrol officers, and paramedics, the man died at the scene. His name is being withheld pending family notification.
Preliminary evidence suggests the pedestrian was crossing against a red light when a westbound vehicle hit him. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
