[11-06-2024] Several Injured, Homes Destroyed in Mountain Fire Near Somis, Moorpark, and CamarilloSeveral people have been injured, and at least one home has been destroyed in the Mountain Fire burning near Somis, Moorpark, and Camarillo, Ventura County, on Wednesday morning, November 6, 2024.

The fire was reported just before 9:00 a.m. near the 7900 block of Balcom Canyon Road and Bradley Road, between Moorpark and Somis, north of the 118 Freeway. By 11 a.m., the flames had crossed the freeway and were threatening the Camarillo Heights area in Camarillo.

The Ventura County Fire Department has mobilized 40 firefighters with 58 fire apparatus, but high winds have hindered air support. Several homes have been destroyed, and multiple burn victims have been transported to local hospitals. Authorities have also reported numerous structures under threat.

Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for the affected areas, including portions of Camarillo. An evacuation center is set up at Padre Serra Parish in Camarillo, and large animals can be taken to the Ventura County Fairgrounds.
