A multi-vehicle collision in Gilroy claimed the life of one driver and severely injured another on Thursday afternoon, November 14, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of Monterey Road and Live Oak Avenue.
A Freightliner truck, driven by 45-year-old Daniel A., was attempting a left turn onto northbound Monterey Road when it collided with a 35-year-old man driving a Honda southbound on Monterey Road.
During the incident, 47-year-old Leonel O., driving a Jeep northbound, had stopped at a red light, and 37-year-old Ricky R., driving a Ford, was in the same lane. The Honda driver failed to stop at the red light, causing the crash.
The impact caused the Honda to veer into the northbound lanes, colliding head-on with the Jeep, leading to both vehicles overturning. Debris from the crash struck the Ford.
The Honda driver was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after the collision. The Jeep driver was taken to the hospital with major injuries, though his current condition was not immediately available. Both Ford and Freightliner truck drivers were not injured.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
