A 72-year-old bicyclist died after crashing while avoiding a 7-year-old child on a scooter along the San Luis Rey River Trail near Mance Buchanon Park in Oceanside on Sunday morning, November 23, 2025.
According to the Oceanside Police Department, the crash occurred around 10:40 a.m. when the cyclist attempted to pass the child and was cut off, causing him to veer and lose control of his bike.
Officer Gina Avalos said the man suffered a head injury despite wearing a helmet. First responders found him unconscious and began CPR, but he died before he could be airlifted from a nearby fire station.
No other injuries were reported. Authorities said the bicyclist’s name will be released once his family is notified.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
