Two children were killed after a crash involving an SUV and another vehicle on the northbound 5 Freeway near Vista Del Lago Road in Lebec, Kern County on Thursday, December 25, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Nissan Rogue traveling northbound near Pyramid Lake allegedly lost control and crashed into the rear of a Toyota Rav4 that was stopped in the median.
CHP said the SUV was occupied by an adult driver, another adult, and six minors. Three of the children were ejected during the collision, and two of them, identified as 9-year-old Jorge P. and 6-year-old Jayden P., were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the driver of the Rav4 was stopped in the median with a family member at the time of the crash. The reason the Rav4 was stopped was not immediately known. CHP reported that the driver of the Nissan Rogue, identified as 28-year-old Jorge P., was arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment and booked without incident. The relationships between the driver and the other occupants were not immediately known.
The investigation is ongoing.
