A three-vehicle collision caused multiple injuries and significant traffic delays on Interstate 8 near Ocotillo in Imperial County on Friday night, December 27, 2024.
The crash occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8, blocking traffic and requiring a multi-agency emergency response.
One person sustained severe injuries and was airlifted from the scene by Mercy Air for treatment.
Emergency crews from the California Highway Patrol, Imperial County Fire, U.S. Border Patrol, Imperial County Sheriff’s Office, AMR Ambulance, NAF El Centro, REACH Air, and Mercy Air Helicopters responded to the incident.
The cause of the collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
