A man was killed after being struck by a car while lying in the roadway on 24th Street in Bakersfield on Friday night, February 27, 2026.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded to the 2000 block of 24th Street at around 7:28 p.m. after receiving a call regarding a welfare check on a person lying in the roadway. Upon arrival, officers found the man dead in the street.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a Toyota Corolla, traveling westbound on 24th Street, struck the pedestrian who was lying in the roadway for unknown reasons.
The driver of the Corolla returned to the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities stated that speed and impairment were not factors in the crash. However, police believe other vehicles may have been involved.
