A 23-year-old San Pablo man faces multiple charges after crashing his e-scooter into a vehicle in Berkeley on Tuesday night, March 10, 2026.
According to Berkeley police, officers responded at 8:05 p.m. to the intersection of Oxford and Addison streets for a report of a collision involving a vehicle and two people on an e-scooter.
Police said the e-scooter operator and passenger merged into the same lane as a southbound vehicle, resulting in a crash that threw both individuals from the scooter.
The passenger, a 33-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
The e-scooter driver, identified as Irving R., failed field sobriety tests at the scene. He was arrested on suspicion of operating a bicycle under the influence and DUI, causing bodily injury.
Authorities also revealed that the suspect had outstanding warrants for DUI and a suspended driver’s license.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No other injuries were reported.
The incident remains under investigation.
