A bicyclist was killed after being struck by a Tesla sedan in San Jose early Saturday morning, March 14, 2026.
According to the San Jose Police Department, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the area of Coleman Avenue and Hedding Street.
The victim was crossing Coleman Avenue south of the intersection when he was struck by a blue 2023 Tesla sedan, which was traveling northbound at high speed.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced the bicyclist dead. His identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the Tesla fled the scene before police arrived, but was later located with the help of automated license plate reader cameras.
The suspect returned to the crash site and appeared to be under the influence. The driver was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail.
The investigation is ongoing.
