One person was killed, and another was injured following a traffic collision on State Route 26 west of Avalon Drive in San Joaquin County, on Friday afternoon, March 27, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a 2006 Toyota Scion, traveling eastbound, drifted off the road, lost control in the gravel, and overcorrected back into the lanes before crashing into a 2002 GMC.
The driver of the Toyota was pinned inside the vehicle, which then caught fire. CHP responded to the crash report around 3:17 p.m.
The driver of the GMC was able to exit the vehicle with minor injuries, but the driver of the Toyota was transported to San Joaquin Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. The crash remains under investigation.
