According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded to the incident at the intersection of Chester and California Avenues just before 10 p.m.
Preliminary investigations found that the driver of the vehicle, traveling northbound on Chester Avenue, had a green light when they entered the intersection.
The pedestrian, who was walking against a red light in the crosswalk, was struck by the vehicle and taken to a hospital. The pedestrian is expected to survive, but the dog was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Authorities stated that alcohol and speed do not appear to have been factors.
The investigation is ongoing.
What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
