Multiple traffic collisions caused heavy traffic in Santa Barbara’s South Coast on Tuesday morning, April 7, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, an overturned white van blocked one of two lanes on northbound Highway 101 in the Montecito area shortly before 8 a.m.
The van had collided with the K-rail and barrels in the construction zone. One person was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with minor injuries.
Initially, one lane was closed, but both lanes were reopened around 9 a.m. due to ongoing construction for the Highway 101 widening project.
Heavy traffic was also reported on State Route 192, known as Foothill Road, in the Carpinteria Valley. Emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle collision at around 9:21 a.m. There were no injuries reported.
By 10 a.m., traffic remained backed up through the Carpinteria Valley and Summerland areas.
