A 72-year-old pedestrian, identified as Patrick M., was killed after being struck by a vehicle in northeast Bakersfield on Friday night, April 17, 2026.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded around 7:10 p.m. to the 5600 block of Auburn Street.
Upon arrival, they found a man in the roadway with major injuries. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators said the pedestrian had exited a bus and entered the roadway in front of an eastbound vehicle on Auburn Street.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Police stated that neither speed nor impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
