Four people were injured following a crash involving two vehicles in Merced County on Friday morning, May 22, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to the incident at around 9:48 a.m. on Highway 152 near the Romero Visitor Center by San Luis Reservoir.
Authorities reported that an 18-year-old male from Los Banos was driving a 1999 BMW coupe in the No. 1 westbound lane when he lost control of the vehicle.
The BMW entered the center median, spun back into the westbound lanes, and collided with a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 19-year-old male with four passengers.
The Chevrolet Tahoe then struck the center median guardrail. Three passengers in the Tahoe were ejected from the vehicle and were not wearing seatbelts. Four occupants sustained moderate to major injuries and were transported by ambulance to hospitals in Modesto.
Authorities stated that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.
The CHP continues to investigate the incident.
