[05-27-2026] Butte County, CA – Female Passenger Killed, Several Injured in Seven-Vehicle Crash on the Esplanade in Chico

A female passenger was killed following a multi-vehicle crash on the Esplanade in Chico on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

According to the Chico Police Department, the collision involved seven vehicles, including a B-Line bus, near the intersection of E. Lassen Avenue.

Authorities reported that the bus and a blue sedan had come to a stop when a gray sedan traveling at a high rate of speed rear-ended the blue sedan, sideswiped the bus, and collided with multiple other vehicles across the intersection.

The driver of the gray sedan was transported to Enloe Health for treatment of injuries. The female passenger who was inside the blue sedan was killed. Two other people sustained minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital.

Officials said that at this time, fault has been attributed only to the driver of the gray sedan. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
