A woman sustained major injuries after being struck by a vehicle while checking on her car following a collision with a deer in Goleta on Monday, June 8, 2026.
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, first responders were dispatched around 11:39 a.m. to a single-vehicle collision with a deer on Cathedral Oaks Road between Los Carneros Road and Storke Road. The deer was killed by the impact, and the two occupants of the vehicle involved in the deer collision were uninjured.
While emergency crews were en route, a female occupant exited the vehicle to assess the damage and check on the deer. At that time, a second vehicle rear-ended the car, pushing it forward and striking the woman.
The woman was transported by ambulance to Cottage Hospital for further medical treatment. No other injuries were reported at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
