A 4-year-old child was killed in a motor home accident at Salt Point State Park in Sonoma County on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just after 11 a.m. in the campground area.
Authorities reported that the motor home rolled backward while the child was standing behind it. The driver, a friend of the child’s family, had intended to slowly pull forward but mistakenly left the vehicle in reverse.
Fire crews responded to the scene and used jacks to lift the vehicle. The child was airlifted to Oakland Children’s Hospital with major injuries but was pronounced dead around 4:30 p.m.
The investigation remains ongoing.
