[07-27-2026] Orange County, CA – One Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on Southbound 55 Freeway

A person was killed in a three-vehicle crash on the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway in Orange late Monday night, July 27, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was reported around 11:04 p.m. on the southbound 55 Freeway just north of the Garden Grove (22) Freeway.

Authorities said a witness reported seeing a black SUV overturned on its side and a person lying in the slow lane, possibly after being ejected from the vehicle.

CHP temporarily closed all southbound lanes except the HOV and fast lanes while emergency crews responded and investigated the crash. All lanes were reopened by approximately 2 a.m.

The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
