A multi-vehicle crash temporarily shut down portions of U.S. Highway 101 and State Route 37 near Novato on Thursday morning, July 30, 2026.
According to Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 9:30 a.m., when several vehicles were involved in a crash that caused one vehicle to strike a power pole.
The downed power lines sparked a brush fire, prompting the temporary closure of all lanes on southbound Highway 101 and State Route 37 near the Rowland Boulevard exit.
Emergency crews from the California Highway Patrol, Caltrans, the fire department, and PG&E responded to the scene.
The crash also caused a power outage affecting portions of Novato, leaving several traffic signals without power. Motorists were advised to remain in their vehicles while crews worked to restore power and clear the roadway. CHP later reported a hit-and-run incident near the crash scene, though no injuries were associated with that incident.
Some lanes reopened by approximately 10:20 a.m., and all lanes on Highway 101 and State Route 37 were fully reopened by about 12:08 p.m.
The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
