[08-27-2026] San Bernardino County, CA – One Killed in Crash on I-15 Near Nipton

One person was killed in an early-morning crash on Interstate 15 in the Mountain Pass area near Nipton, San Bernardino County, on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

According to preliminary information from the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 2:19 a.m. on the northbound I-15 near mile marker 169, south of Bailey Road.

Initial CHP incident logs referenced a white sedan and a semi-truck. Responding personnel reported finding a male on the ground and initially requested an air ambulance for a patient experiencing agonal breathing.

CHP later reported that one person at the scene showed signs of death, and the San Bernardino County coroner was requested. Available information does not establish whether the person for whom the air ambulance was requested was the person who died or another individual involved in the crash.

All three northbound lanes were temporarily closed while emergency crews responded, and traffic was diverted to the right shoulder. The lanes were subsequently reopened.
