[08-27-2026] Contra Costa County, CA – Seven-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down I-680 in Danville

A seven-vehicle crash temporarily shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 680 near Danville in Contra Costa County on Thursday afternoon, August 27, 2026.

According to a California Highway Patrol incident log, the collision was reported around 1:25 p.m. on the northbound I-680 just south of Diablo Road.

Fire officials requested that the northbound freeway be closed, and all lanes were shut down by approximately 1:43 p.m. CHP issued a SigAlert shortly before 2:00 p.m., with multiple lanes blocked.

The Diablo Road on-ramp to northbound I-680 was also temporarily closed before reopening later in the afternoon. CHP requested six tow trucks and an ambulance to respond to the scene.

Traffic information indicated that injuries were reported, although CHP had not confirmed those reports. As of 2:51 p.m., the right lane remained closed, and heavy traffic continued in the area.
