Two people were killed after a vehicle went off a hillside near Willits in Mendocino County on Sunday afternoon, August 30, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s Ukiah office, the crash was reported around 3:57 p.m. near the 1300 block of Mariposa Creek Road and Bear Canyon Road.
CHP said the vehicle was located approximately 150 feet down the hillside, resting on its roof.
Two occupants were found inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released their identities pending notification of their families.
The circumstances that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway were not immediately known.
The investigation remains ongoing.
