Six people were injured, including five who suffered major injuries, in a head-on crash on State Route 62 in San Bernardino County on Sunday morning, September 6, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers and San Bernardino County Fire personnel responded around 10:15 a.m. to Twentynine Palms Highway near mile marker 124, between Wonder Valley and Vidal Junction.
CHP said Nathan V., 16, of Anaheim, was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe westbound with four passengers when the SUV crossed solid double yellow lines while attempting to pass a slower vehicle. The Tahoe then collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado and caught fire.
Nathan suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. Two 19-year-old male passengers also sustained major injuries and were airlifted to Abrazo West Hospital in Goodyear, Arizona.
An 18-year-old male passenger suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. A 16-year-old Anaheim passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital.
The Silverado driver, a 30-year-old Redlands man, suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center in Bullhead City.
