A 5-year-old child suffered severe injuries in a hit-and-run collision in southeast Bakersfield on Thursday afternoon, September 24, 2026.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the crash occurred at around 2:05 p.m. near Tyree Toliver and Wilkins streets.
Police said a woman was driving westbound with children inside the vehicle and was preparing to make a southbound turn when a truck with two occupants ran a southbound stop sign and struck the vehicle on the passenger side.
The child suffered severe injuries and was reported to be in critical but stable condition. The child was being airlifted to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera for treatment.
Police said both occupants of the truck fled the scene following the collision. The passenger was taken into custody, while authorities continued searching for the driver.
The authorities continue to investigate the hit-and-run crash.
