[05-12-2024] Motorcyclist Killed Following Five-Vehicle Crash, Including Motorcycle, Along Highway 1 in Carmel WoodsA motorcyclist was killed following a five-vehicle crash, including a motorcycle, Near Carmel-By-The-Sea, Monterey County, early Sunday morning, May 12, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly accident happened at about 5:52 a.m. along northbound Highway 1 and Carpenter Street.

Officers said that a 17-year-old juvenile was driving a black Ford F-150 along Highway 1 when he suddenly crossed the southbound lanes for some reason, which led to the vehicle crashing into a power pole on the west side of the highway. 

The pole and its wires reportedly fell onto and blocked the roadway as a result. Soon enough, four more vehicles collided with the now-downed power pole, with the last one of them being a red and black Honda CBR1000 motorcycle.

The rider, later identified as a 44-year-old Seaside man, was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision. There is no word yet of any other injuries or fatalities apart from the motorcyclist.

CHP is currently investigating if drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal incident. The juvenile driver was released to his parents. 

Additional information was not immediately available. Police work is underway.
