At least one person was killed after a two-vehicle collision in Oakland early Friday morning, May 17, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash happened at about 12:20 a.m. along eastbound Interstate 580 near the Grand Avenue offramp.
One of the vehicles involved overturned near the center divider following the crash. A witness told the officers that a pickup truck flipped at least five times before hitting a nearby pole.
Currently, only one fatality has been reported, and no other injuries. Further information about the deceased was not immediately available. It is still unclear if the victim was inside the car that flipped at the time of the incident.
All lanes of I-580’s eastbound exit to Grand Avenue were closed as a precaution.
CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
