[05-21-2024] Three People Injured After Suspected Motorcycle Vs. Vehicle DUI Crash in Ocean BeachThree people were injured after a suspected motorcycle vs. vehicle DUI crash in Ocean Beach, San Diego, on Tuesday afternoon, May 21, 2024.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the traffic accident occurred at about 4:36 p.m. around the intersection of Bacon Street and Voltaire Street.

SDPD said that a 42-year-old man was riding his 2024 BMW motorcycle westbound on 5100 Voltaire Street with a 38-year-old female passenger. In front of them was a 49-year-old man driving a 2016 Honda CRV that had stopped at the stop sign approaching the intersection with Bacon Street.

It is said that the motorcyclist failed to stop safely behind the Honda, resulting in a violent rear-end collision in which the motorcycle reportedly caught fire. 

The rider suffered severe burn injuries as a result of the incident, while his passenger was thrown off their ride and was seriously injured. She reportedly sustained an open pelvic fracture on top of a large laceration on her scalp. The Honda driver, meanwhile, complained of pain in his back.

What caused the collision in the first place remains unclear, but SDPD believes that DUI may be involved. The authorities are still carefully analyzing all the evidence they could find.
