[05-29-2024] 66-Year-Old Male Biker Killed After Bicycle Vs. Vehicle Collision in Otay Mesa WestA 66-year-old male biker was killed after a bicycle vs. vehicle collision in San Diego on Wednesday evening, May 29, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident happened at about 7:40 p.m. along southbound Interstate 805 at the Palm Avenue off-ramp in the Otay Mesa West neighborhood.

Officers said that the elderly bicyclist from San Diego was riding his bike on the shoulder of I-805 and was exiting onto Palm Avenue when a Toyota sedan veered to the right for a still-unknown reason, striking him and his bike.

Upon arrival, responders found the man on the roadway unresponsive. Paramedics administered lifesaving measures but were unsuccessful in saving his life. The victim, later identified as Victor F., died at the scene due to blunt force head and neck trauma.

It is unclear if the driver that hit the victim remained on the scene or not. No other injuries were reported at this time.

The CHP is still investigating the cause of the accident. No further information was disclosed at the moment.
