[08-04-2024] 71-Year-Old Male Bicyclist Seriously Injured After Being Struck by Vehicle in Chula VistaA 71-year-old male bicyclist was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Chula Vista on Sunday afternoon, August 4 2024.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 12:27 p.m. in the 1600 block of Wueste Road, near Mountain Hawke Park.

The US Border Patrol was the first to arrive after receiving multiple calls reporting the collision. Upon arrival, they found the elderly man, whose name remains undisclosed, with major injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where his current status was unknown as of Monday morning.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, a woman in her 30s from Vista, was detained by US Border Patrol officers and later arrested on charges unrelated to the collision. 

Authorities believe alcohol was not a factor in the accident, but the cause of the collision remains under investigation.

The CVPD urges anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact their Traffic Bureau at (619) 476-5302 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
