[08-15-2024] Contra Costa County, CA – 63-Year-Old Passenger Killed After Single-Vehicle DUI Crash on Appian Way in El Sobrante

A 63-year-old passenger was killed after a DUI crash in El Sobrante, Contra Costa County on Thursday afternoon, August 15, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. on eastbound Appian Way, just west of La Paloma Road.

Authorities identified the passenger as Donald C., a resident of El Sobrante. The driver of the white Chevrolet Astro Van was transported to a hospital with minor injuries before being arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The van was reportedly speeding recklessly eastbound on Appian Way when it sideswiped three parked vehicles and hit a trailer on the right shoulder. The van then flipped onto its left side, coming to a stop. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
