[10-07-2024] One Dead, Multiple Injured After Collision Involving Pedestrian on I-5 Near Liberal AvenueA deadly crash occurred, resulting in one fatality and several injuries on Interstate 5 in Tehama County, early Monday morning, October 7, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place shortly after midnight in the northbound lanes near Liberal Avenue in Corning.

The victim, a 39-year-old man from Corning, was struck and killed. His identity has not been released pending notification of family members. The driver of the vehicle that hit him, 52-year-old Estella C. from Fresno, was traveling with three passengers. Following the collision, she reportedly stopped on the roadway to call 911.

Another northbound vehicle, a Ford Crown Victoria driven by 71-year-old William R. from Orland, collided with the stopped Ford Edge. He sustained major injuries, and all occupants of the vehicles were transported to Enloe Health for medical attention.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
