A driver was killed, and multiple individuals were injured following a head-on collision in the Avena area of San Joaquin County on Sunday evening, December 1, 2024.
The crash occurred around 5:22 p.m. on eastbound Mariposa Road near Skiff Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
For reasons yet to be determined, a vehicle veered into oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on crash.
Firefighters extricated occupants trapped in both vehicles, and all injured parties were transported to San Joaquin General Hospital. One of the drivers later succumbed to their injuries.
Authorities have not yet confirmed if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
The incident remains under investigation.
