[12-31-2024] Man Killed After Crash in Camarillo, Second Driver Fled on FootA 40-year-old man from Oxnard was killed in a crash on northbound Highway 101 in Camarillo early Tuesday morning, December 31, 2024.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred shortly before 1:00 a.m. north of Carmen Drive. 

Witnesses stated that a black 2007 Lexus IS 250 traveling at high speed made an unsafe turning movement to the right, striking a concrete wall. The impact caused the Lexus to overturn into the traffic lanes.

Moments later, a gray 2010 Ford Mustang traveling northbound collided with the disabled Lexus and then hit the guardrail in the center divider.

The driver of the Lexus was transported to Ventura County Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. His identity has not been released pending family notification.

The driver of the Mustang fled the scene on foot and remained at large as of Tuesday morning. CHP officials checked local hospitals for any walk-in patients matching the suspect’s description.

The crash closed northbound lanes of Highway 101 for several hours, with the roadway reopening around 9:00 a.m.

Authorities are investigating whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
