A minor sustained serious injuries after colliding with a vehicle while riding his bike in El Rio, an unincorporated area north of Oxnard, on Monday afternoon, February 17, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m. at the intersection of Alvarado Street and Helsam Avenue.
The bicyclist, described as a 10 to 13-year-old boy, was traveling eastbound on Alvarado Street and was not wearing a helmet. A black Kia Optima, driven by a motorist heading northbound on Helsam Avenue, attempted to stop but was unable to avoid the collision.
The young rider struck the front of the car and was thrown from his bicycle. He sustained major injuries, including lacerations to his head and eye, and was transported to a local hospital.
Authorities stated that drugs and alcohol were not suspected to be factors in the incident.
The CHP Ventura-area office is investigating the crash.
