[03-22-2025] One Person Dies Following Two-Vehicle Crash on 5 Freeway in San Juan CapistranoOne person died after a collision involving two vehicles on the southbound 5 Freeway just south of Junipero Serra Road in San Juan Capistrano on Saturday morning, March 22, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at around 8:49 a.m. and involved a white sedan and a silver sedan. A witness stated that the impact was severe enough to deploy airbags in both vehicles.

Preliminary information indicated that the driver of the white sedan appeared to be impaired and was reportedly driving recklessly prior to the collision. The driver’s brother later told authorities that he received a phone call from him, during which the driver sounded “out of it.”

The individual was transported to Mission Regional Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. The CHP has since labeled the incident as a fatality.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
