One person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 680 near the Highway 24 interchange in Contra Costa County early Wednesday morning, April 30, 2025.
According to reports, multiple drivers began contacting authorities just after midnight to report a wrong-way driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-680.
The vehicle was seen near the 24/680 split and continued past the Pleasant Hill Road exit, prompting several near-miss collisions.
A three-car collision was later reported on the southbound I-680 to the westbound Highway 24 flyover. Two vehicles were confirmed to be involved in the crash, and both drivers required extrication.
One motorist sustained serious injuries, and coroner’s officials were requested to the scene. It remains unclear whether the suspect vehicle was directly involved in the crash or caused it.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
