[04-30-2025] Two Injured After Vehicle Plunges Down Embankment Off Highway 58 Two people sustained injuries after a vehicle plunged down an embankment off Highway 58, just east of the San Luis Obispo and Kern County line, in Kern County, on Wednesday morning, April 30, 2025.

According to the Kern County Fire Department, the crash occurred at around 12:30 a.m. when the vehicle veered off the roadway, falling approximately 50 to 60 feet down an embankment and landing on its roof. 

The Emergency Communications Center received a distress call, and a fire engine from McKittrick was the first to arrive at the scene. 

A firefighter used a Quick Deployment Rope Bag to safely reach the overturned vehicle, where two occupants were found with minor to moderate injuries. 

Additional crews arrived and deployed a rope system and rescue basket to lift one of the injured individuals to safety, while the second occupant was able to climb up the embankment with assistance.

Both occupants were transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment. 

The crash remains under investigation.
