A pregnant woman was killed following a crash on southbound Interstate 280 near Bird Avenue in San Jose on Thursday evening, May 8, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. when a 25-year-old San Jose woman driving a green Honda Civic cut across lanes of the freeway and collided with a Ford pickup truck.
The driver was ejected from her vehicle and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to Valley Medical Center, where both she and her unborn child were later pronounced dead. Her identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
Two children, ages approximately 3 and 6, were also in the Honda Civic but did not appear to be injured. They were taken to a hospital as a precaution.
No other injuries were reported. Authorities have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
