[05-19-2025] Motorcyclist Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 43 at Burbank Street Near ShafterA motorcyclist was killed following a two-vehicle crash involving a truck on Highway 43 at Burbank Street south of Shafter early Monday morning, May 19, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 3:47 a.m. at the intersection of Central Valley Highway (Highway 43) and Burbank Street. 

A 92-year-old man was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on the highway at about 55 miles per hour. At the same time, a motorcyclist riding a 2025 Honda motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Burbank Street at a slow speed.

CHP said the motorcyclist failed to make a complete stop at the posted stop sign and entered the intersection directly in the path of the oncoming truck. The driver of the Chevrolet swerved to avoid the motorcycle but was unable to avoid a collision. The front left side of the truck struck the motorcyclist, who was then ejected from the bike.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the truck was not injured. CHP stated that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors. The crash remains under investigation.
