[06-23-2025] Driver Killed After Pickup Runs Stop Sign, Causes Crash on Highway 43 Near Garces HighwayA man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 43 near Delano early Monday morning, June 23, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 2:08 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 43 and Garces Highway. 

A 2017 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on Highway 43, north of the intersection, while a 2001 Toyota Tacoma was heading westbound on Garces Highway toward Highway 43.

CHP stated that the driver of the Toyota Tacoma failed to stop at the posted stop sign and entered the intersection, striking the left side of the Toyota Camry. The impact caused the Camry to spin out and land on the dirt shoulder, while the Tacoma overturned onto its right side and also came to rest off the roadway.

The driver of the Toyota Camry was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma fled the area on foot and remains at large, according to officials.

It is currently unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved. The crash remains under active investigation.
