At least one person was killed in a rollover crash on the westbound 78 Freeway in San Marcos early Saturday morning, July 19, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at 2:03 a.m. near Rancho Santa Fe Road. A vehicle had overturned, prompting emergency response from the San Marcos Fire Department.
Authorities said the driver was conscious when freed from the wreck and was transported by ambulance to a hospital. Firefighters worked to extricate a passenger from the vehicle.
It was not immediately confirmed whether the deceased individual was the driver or the passenger. The crash remains under investigation.
