Three people, including a 10-year-old child, were injured in a suspected DUI crash involving one vehicle in Paradise, Butte County, on Sunday night, July 20, 2025.
According to police, the collision occurred around 11:25 p.m. near the intersection of Skyway and Pentz Road.
Officers arrived to find a heavily damaged vehicle with three occupants: a man, a woman, and a child. All three sustained injuries and were transported to Enloe Hospital for treatment. Chico Police Department officers assisted at the hospital due to the nature of the case.
Authorities identified the driver as Devrick W., who was reportedly highly intoxicated at the time of the crash. He was arrested at the hospital. Police said the driver refused to provide a chemical sample, prompting officers to secure a warrant for a blood draw.
During the investigation, the female passenger told officers that the driver struck her in the face after she asked him to stop the vehicle prior to the crash. Officers noted visible swelling from the reported assault. The woman also stated she had been in a long-term relationship with the driver.
Authorities confirmed that Devrick W. is on felony probation, transferred from Texas to Butte County for firearm possession charges. He was arrested on multiple charges, including DUI causing injury, child endangerment, resisting arrest, attempting to disarm an officer, domestic violence, and violating probation. His bail was set at $230,000.
The incident remains under investigation.
