[07-28-2025] Maintenance Worker Killed After Vehicle Crashes onto Sidewalk on Bonita Road in Chula VistaA maintenance worker was struck and killed by a vehicle that lost control in Chula Vista on Monday afternoon, July 28, 2025.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, the crash occurred just before 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Allen School Road and Bonita Road. 

An aqua green Toyota Prius was traveling eastbound on Bonita Road when the driver lost control, crossed five lanes of traffic, hit a parked vehicle, and continued onto the sidewalk.

The vehicle struck a maintenance worker who was working along the roadway. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Family members identified him as 47-year-old Visael H. of Chiapas, Mexico.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Alexander H. of Chula Vista, remained at the scene. He was given a sobriety test and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and vehicular manslaughter while impaired. No injuries were reported for the driver.

The Chula Vista Police Department is handling the investigation.
