A woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing into a center divider on Highway 24 near Lafayette on Sunday afternoon, August 3, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, multiple callers reported a reckless driver speeding and using the center divider to pass other vehicles around 3:45 p.m.
When a CHP officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to yield, leading to a pursuit that was later ended due to concerns about the presence of children in the vehicle.
Minutes later, the vehicle crashed into the center divider wall near Central Lafayette. The crash occurred after the pursuit was called off, and the vehicle was not being chased at the time.
The driver, a 32-year-old woman from Newark, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital via CHP helicopter. All four children in the vehicle were unharmed but were also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI, child endangerment, and reckless evading. The investigation is ongoing.
