[08-24-2025] Driver Injured in Solo Vehicle Crash and Fire on State Route 76 Near Pankey RoadOne person was injured in a solo vehicle crash that led to a car fire on State Route 76 in San Diego County, early Sunday morning, August 24, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident was reported at 12:35 a.m. just east of Pankey Road. Dispatchers said the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and catch fire in the engine bay.

North County Fire Protection District crews arrived quickly and extinguished the fire before it spread to surrounding vegetation. CHP, the Sheriff’s Office, and Cal Fire also responded to the scene.

Officials said the driver exited the vehicle before it became fully engulfed. The man initially reported that his girlfriend was still inside, prompting crews to search the car and nearby area with lights and thermal imaging. No passengers were located, and authorities confirmed no one had been ejected.

The driver sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. His identity and the extent of his injuries have not yet been released. Tow services later removed the wreckage.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
