A man was killed, and another man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 99 near Arch Road in Stockton on Sunday morning, November 23, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident began around 5:11 a.m. when a Toyota driver lost control for unknown reasons and veered into a concrete divider while traveling north on Highway 99.
The Toyota became disabled and was positioned perpendicular to the traffic lanes. A BMW driver pulled over on the right shoulder to check on the Toyota’s driver.
Roughly four minutes later, a northbound Nissan traveling at a high rate of speed struck the driver’s side of the disabled Toyota and then veered into the rear of the parked BMW. CHP said the Nissan’s driver and passenger fled the scene on foot, running east into an orchard. The Toyota driver suffered major injuries and later died at the hospital. The occupants of the BMW were not injured.
CHP and San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputies later located the Nissan driver attempting to get into a Lyft vehicle. Authorities said the individual showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.
